Dana White Receives an Award, Shogun Talks Upcoming Machida Fight
- UFC President Dana White was recently named as the 2009 Nevada Sportsman
Of The Year. This was part of a fund raising marathon put on by ESPN
Radio 1100 for Las Vegas' charity The Caring Place. The event earned over
$250,000 to help out. One reception attendee won dinner with Forrest Griffin for
$2,000, which White then added a $100,000 donation to. UFC is also doing other auctions on Ebay to benefit The Caring Place.
- The Tatme.com website recently spoke with Mauricio "Shogun" Rua about his
upcoming fight with UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Lyoto Machida, here
is what he had to say:
On Starting Training: "We're training, but light for a while. I'm
focused, but I still have about four months to get prepared for this
fight. It will be tough, it's hard to find sparring with Lyoto's style,
but I'll prepare myself the best way for this fight."
On Previously Training With Lyoto: "He only fought top guys and did it
very well, no one put the hand on him. He beat Thiago Silva, Tito Ortiz
and Rashad Evans, but fight is fight and anything can happen. Lyoto has
adapted very well to MMA and the octagon, let's see what he does best
to create the strategy."
