WWE Friday Night SmackDown Report
March 27th, 2009

[Q1] The opening video aired, and as soon as it was over, CM Punk made his entrance. Jim Ross and Tazz welcomed us to Smackdown. The other seven men in MITB were already in the ring…

1. Finlay, Kane, Christian, and Shelton Benjamin defeated Kofi Kingston, CM Punk, MVP, and Mark Henry at 10:43. Christian and Kofi Kingston started. They worked some back and forth quick moves on each other. Christian hit a reverse DDT for two. Kingston fought back and tagged Punk. Punk hit a couple of shots and then a cross body from the top for two. Christian got a cheap shot in and tagged Finlay. Finlay came in and worked his ground and pound on Punk. Punk flipped Finlay when he charged in and set him up for the GTS. He turned around into a Kane boot. Kane picked up Finlay by his throat and shoved him into a neutral corner and looked up at the first commercial break…[C]

Back from commercial, Punk escaped Benjamin and tagged in Henry. Benjamin went to his corner and tagged Kane and stepped out. Kane tried to shoulder tackle Henry but Henry won, so Kane punched him. Henry got the better of him and tagged in MVP. Kane destroyed MVP and Benjamin tagged himself in. He worked on MVP and locked in a rest hold. MVP fought his way out, but Benjamin flipped him charging in and tagged Kane. MVP managed to get a hot tag to Punk and he took control over Kane. He went to the top and tried for a move, but Kane caught him by the throat and chokeslammed him for the win.

Post match, all eight men brawled. Christian put a ladder in the ring and climbed to the top. Hornswoggle distracted him and Finlay pushed the ladder over, sending Christian to crash onto the other participants. Finlay and Horny climbed the ladder and celebrated…The announce team hyped playing a video of what happened to Steph on Raw for later…[C]

[Q2]Jesse and Festus were in the ring. Big Show made his entrance. They showed video of Show knocking out Edge on Raw…

2. The Big Show defeated Jess and Festus at 2:28. The bell rang…and Big Show beat Festus like “the proverbial gov’ment mule.” Festus managed to knock Show to the ground and covered for one. That pissed Show off, so he knocked out Festus and Jesse. Post match, they showed a video that lasted almost as long as the match…

Yet another 12 teaser trailer aired…The announce team hyped that “The Extreme Enigma” Jeff Hardy would be here later. He sounds like a Batman villain…[C]

The last commercial was for Wrestlemania All Access that will occur the day before Wrestlemania. You get to do an entrance on the stage. Like copy a Superstar’s entrance…

[Q3] A video recapped the Hardy feud. Matt Hardy was backstage with a Jack Russell Terrier. He cut a promo on Jeff while petting the dog. He kissed the dog a few times…OK, a lot of times. He said he was going to take Jeff to the extreme. He called Jeff a kid to end the promo and then kissed the dog some more and hugged it. Then he looked at the screen very mean…Rey Mysterio made his entrance…[C]

Back from commercial, Rey was still making his entrance. The announce team hyped Rey vs. JBL at Mania for the IC title. Chavo Guerrero made his entrance…[C]

3. Rey Mysterio defeated Chavo Guerrero at 5:29. Chavo got tossed to the floor early. Rey hit a baseball slide to a tilt a whirl on the floor. He rolled Chavo into the ring and climbed the turnbuckle. Chavo climbed up and hit a hurricanranna on Rey and locked in a rest hold. Rey fought out and tried for a springboard flip. Chavo caught him and tied him in the Tree of Woe. Chavo tried to spear him, but Mysterio sat up and Chavo hit the post. Rey hit a series of quick moves and got a two. Chavo hit a cool move by reversing Rey’s flip attempt for two.

Rey hit a surprise hurricanranna to setup Chavo for the 619. Chavo ducked it at the last second and tried for Three Amigos. Rey slipped out of the last one, but Chavo hit a belly to back. Chavo went for the frog splash but Rey moved. Rey hit a drop toe hold, the 619, and top rope splash for the win. Rey stood to celebrate and got leveled by JBL. JBL towered over the broken Mysterio…

[Q4] The announce team showed the video of Cena’s get well card from Monday. Cena was shown heading towards the ring…[C]

Back from commercial, Cena made his entrance. He got a mic and cut a promo on how great Wrestlemania is. He went on to discuss his match. He said he felt like an outsider looking in at the “once coveted World Heavyweight Championship.” He said the other three people had tried every way in the world to keep him away from the title, but he resorted to blackmail and he would do it again to make sure he would go to Wrestlemania. He said that Show’s, Vickie’s and Edge’s “Jerry Springer lives” had caused the world title to be held hostage and he was going to rescue it. He said he came out to say something serious. And that he was going to leave Wrestlemania champion.

[Q5]Show’s music hit and he came to the ring. Powell…er…Show got a mic and said Cena could make fun of their love if he wanted, but that love made him strong. He said Edge learned how strong and challenged Cena to learn on Monday night. Cena accepted and Show went to leave. Cena grabbed his foot and tipped him off the ring. Show got all pissed and Cena celebrated…The teaser for the video of what happened to Steph Monday aired…[C]

Back from commercial, R-Truth made his entrance. Matt Hardy came out next…

4. Matt Hardy defeated R-Turth 3:05. Some quick back and forth between these two, but what struck me is how off they were. The spots all seemed just a hair off synch, making it look really bad. Hardy dodged a scissor kick and hit the Twist of Fate for the win…A video recapped the Undertaker/Shawn Michaels “confrontation” Monday night…

[Q6]The announce team hyped a Shawn Michaels “tribute to the Undertaker” for later…The Colons and Brie Bella made their entrance. They will wrestle next…[C]

5. Carlito and Primo Colon and Brie Bella defeated John Morrison, The Miz, and Nikki Bella 2:23. The Bellas got in each other’s face before the bell. Primo and Miz started out. Primo had to break a hold on the rope. Miz distracted the ref and Morrison got a cheap shot in. He tagged in Morrison and they hit their team elbow and Morrison covered for two. Primo kicked out and got a hot tag on Carlito. Carlito worked on Morrison and covered.

Miz broke it up and the typical housecleaning began. Brie charged over and attacked Nikki. In the ring, Morrison tried for a suplex, but Carlito flipped through into a stiff backstabber for the win. Post match, the winners celebrated…The announce team hyped the video of Steph for next…[C]

[Q7]A video promo of Jeff Hardy being an Extreme Enigma and kind of cutting free verse on Matt. He looked crazy as hell too. He said Matt took everything away from him and he was going to take something from him. He never said what…The announce team ran down the Wrestlemania Card…They played the video of the Orton/Hunter angle from Monday…[C]

Back from commercial, Maryse made her entrance. Michelle McCool was out next. Hey, a title match…

6. Maryse fought Michelle McCool to a no contest for the Diva’s Championship at 3:00. They locked up collar and elbow and held it all the way to the ring side floor. Both slid back in watching each other and tied up again. Maryse backed McCool into the corner and broke. McCool speared her and started working on her leg. Maryse reversed a sit down splash by kicking McCool over the rope and they brawled on the floor. They got back in the ring, and Gail Kim ran in and hit a missile drop kick on Maryse and a RKO type move on McCool. She held up the Diva’s belt and celebrated…

[Q8]The middle 48 minutes of 12 Rounds played…The announce team hyped the Shawn Michaels “tribute to Undertaker” as next.[C]

Back from commercial, a bunch of white clad “druids” came out and lined the ringside area as Gregorian Monk chants played and smoke filled the floor. Some very intense music played, and out walked a figure in clothes identical to Undertaker, but all in white. And I mean identical. Even down to the gloves. He did all the Taker intro moves, raising the lights and the hat removal. The figure turned out to be Shawn Michaels.

Shawn got a mic and quoted Genesis 1:1 through about 1:7. Michaels cut a promo about how he and Taker were opposites, light and dark. He waxed on and on about it and even quoted some other verses and spouted some serious evangelical ideas. He said he had eternal life, but Taker’s streak did not. He said at Wrestlemania 25, the man Taker had never beaten would take him to the fiery depths of hell and only Shawn would ascend, victorious. He hung his head as the intro music played. Suddenly, Shawn’s normal intro hit and he started dancing and stripping.

Undertaker popped up through the canvas and tried to take Shawn to WWE hell. Shawn fought out, but Taker followed. He grabbed Shawn by the throat and picked him up for the choke slam, but HBK grabbed the rope and escaped. He hustled to the top of the ramp and celebrated as his music played and Taker looked pissed…[C]
